THE STORY BEHIND ATWEA MOUNTAINS


Atwea Mountains is located in Kumasi, Atwea to be precise in the Sekyere Central District in the Ashanti Region of Ghana and it is popular for holding prayer camps not only for the Christian in Ghana, but for Africa as whole. Mount Kwamisa is one of the highest mountains in Ghana of about 2,479 feet.

   A portion of this mountain had been used as the Atwea Camp. Atwea camp is located on the Kwamisa Mountain that is the reason why it is the Atwea Mountain.
Atwea Mountain is famous for its attraction of Christian pilgrims, who regularly visit the bid to ascend to the peak of the mountain to hold prayers and conventions.

    According to historians, the act began so many decades ago when one local Methodist pastor in Atwea named Abraham Osei – Assibey climb the Atwea Bour (Atwea Stone) to go and pray to the Lord.

He spent some few days on the mountain top praying and later returned to the town and after, he regularly visited the mountain top with his fellowship. The Atwea Mountain since then has become one of the most popular converging place for Christians all over Ghana.

Despite the fact that the mountain is very steep and tall, it does not discourage Christian groups from visiting the town of Atwea and climbing it to spend a few days with the ‘Lord’.


According to the villagers, a group of church members even went ahead to claim that the blood Jesus Christ flows on the Atwea Mountains during Easter seasons. There are those who believe it and others doubt it. 

You need to visit Atwea Mountains and enjoy the view. If you want to fast and pray to God, then here is the place to go and the cool environment is a perfect one.
