HISTORY OF THE ADAKLU MOUNTAIN


Tourist sites are many in Ghana and they include castles, museum among many others but I will like to talk about mountains specifically Mountain Adaklu. Mountains are large land form that rises above the surrounding land in a limited area, usually in the form of a peak and has its history and natural beauty. 

Adaklu Mountain is located at the foot of Ho (12 km); the Volta Regional Capital. The name Adaklu comes from a myth of the historic Ewe migration from Notse.
‘Tenden’ is the local name for Adaklu mountain which is praised as a traditional God. All libations poured includes Tenden an example can be the libation poured for the Adaklu tourist project.

Mount Adaklu is one of the highest in Ghana at about 580 m above sea level and what makes it more beautiful is that, it is the tallest free standing “mountain” in Ghana. The bush trail to the top is beautiful and slightly slippery at times.

The mountain is surrounded by nine villages of which some are Helekpe, Sikama, and Kordiabe. Kordiabe is located about a quarter way up the mountain, and is a convenient resting place when climbing the mountain from the Helekpe path.

Tours are organized on mountain for tourists, and the profits derived from them are invested in the community. A three-hour hike to the summit is a good opportunity to see colorful birds and butterflies.

HISTORY ON THE INDEGENOUS AFADJATO

Mount Afadjato is the highest mountain in Ghana, at an elevation of 885 meters, 2,904ft. The mountain is located in the Agumatsa Range near the villages of Liati Wote and Gbledi in the Volta Region of Ghana at the border with Togo. Afadja is the name of the mountain whereas “To” in the Ewe dialect means mountain. Therefore it is pronounced Afadjato by the indigens. Despite what is generally known as Mountain Afadjato, the correct name should be Mount Afadja not Mount Afadjato. Saying mount Afadjato will only be a repetition of mountain Afadja Mountain. In Gblidi, a village 24km from Hohoe, you will find the highest mountain in Ghana, Mount Afadja.
